4th of July Recap

I'm a good month behind on my blog posts, but that's alright. At least I have a few stories lined up to share.

This was the first time our family did something for Fourth of July. I believe the past several years we just stayed home. It was a pretty great experience overall, except for the heat.I felt like the heat was just extreme that day.

Initially we had nothing planned that day, but Sean's sister stopped by for a haircut that afternoon. She mentioned that they were off to Warner Center to watch the fireworks and invited us along. I had to wait for Sean to get off work and at first I wasn't sure if he was up to hang out all evening since he was at work all day.To be honest I'm glad we joined them. It was a fun experience and even though I had mediocre "fair food" I at least got to spend some good quality time with the family and Ryu enjoyed himself.

We followed the kiddies to the playground at the park to have some playtime. Have you ever been to a kids area at a park, mall, or theme park when it's extremely busy? It's like being in a jungle. The playground was full with screaming, yelling, and crying kids everywhere. There were even children in the playground that were my height if not taller roaming around. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous. I don't mind Ryu playing in the play area, but there has been a few instances where Ryu's been hurt by bigger kids and their parents watch as if nothing happened. That is the kind of behavior I can't tolerate and it's not the child's fault. It's the parent that does not say anything about it. Therefore, I just like keeping my eyes on Ryu to make sure that nothing happens on his part or anyone else. We were there for a good minute and it was a bit difficult trying to keep up with which direction the children headed. It was a bit hectic in the play area and I was not even sure how any of the kids enjoyed themselves considering that it was a jungle!

As we headed back towards our area I bought the kids silly string to enjoy. It was definitely a rip off! I purchased it so that the kids could enjoy it. However, there was not much in the can. I felt bad because after a few sprays they ran out and I was very tempted to buy them another can, but I knew that they would be just as disappointed if they ran out quickly.

I also filmed the fireworks!

I can't wait to do this again next year! If we do not go to Warner Center hopefully we can spend time at another place just as memorable as this place. They had great fireworks! I have not posted all the videos up, but at least you get the idea of what we watched that evening. I enjoy spending quality time with my family. I also love that we get to take Ryu around like this. Growing up we experienced some quality time, but not the way that Ryu is getting to. I just feel very blessed and thankful for everything and everyone good in our lives.

Beginner's Gardening 101

[caption id="attachment_830" align="aligncenter" width="740"]©2013ItsAbbyTime ©2013ItsAbbyTime[/caption]

When I was younger I never liked plants or flowers. I believe that it had a lot to do with the bugs and worms that I have found on multiple occasions in my grandparents garden. If you asked me a year ago if I would to plant a few things I'd probably pass. However, now that we're in a much bigger place the idea of gardening started to sound like lots of fun. We do not have a garden, but we have a huge patio area. Sean provided me with a baker's rack to place outside where I can place all my plants.

I've looked at Pinterest and Google trying to find inspiration on what exactly I'd want to garden. I then realized that most of the plants I want to garden are many vegetables and herbs. I have tons of room on the baker's rack to place multiple pots and plants for a little produce area. I am in no way shape or form a pro at gardening nor do I even know that much about. Although, after reading a few articles here and there I am confident enough to start with these three beauties!

I'm super excited about these three little plants that I have. It's small to start with and at least I can get my foot into the door of gardening. I started off with cilantro, basil, and a red onion plant. For the onions I'm going to have to replace the pot with something larger. These pots are plastic and I am trying to find the old school ceramic clay pots. I didn't find small ones at Lowes. Hopefully I can find them on Amazon or Google. I have been thinking if I wanted to have a few flower pots on the top of the rack just for decorative purposes, but I'm really not a big fan of flowers. If I do decide to purchase flowers I'd love to have some Plumerias or even Orchids. I think those type of flowers would be beautiful on our patio. We still have a long way to go as far as decorating or getting our place together, but at least we're starting on the right foot.

I'm so excited about this whole gardening ordeal. I hope that this all turns out well. That way we can have a few fresh produce to add into our meals that I can say I grew myself! I easily get sucked into projects and if something doesn't happen quickly or I don't see progress I tend to give up and move on to the next thing. However, with plants I know that growing something takes time and I want to learn how to become more patient. I think this is the best way for me to learn how to provide some good TLC and see it manifest on its own. I also plan on documenting my little gardening adventure. That way I can at least see the type of progress I've been making to evaluate whether I'm good at this or not.

Deconstructed Burrito

I made this meal this morning for breakfast. I was browsing Food Network and was inspired to have a Mexican style breakfast. Originally I wanted to wrap this in a tortilla, but soon realized that I ran out. I guess you can say that's a good thing that way I eliminated the unnecessary carbs for this morning.

This recipe was completely eyeballed. If there is anything that you want to add to the deconstructed burrito do so. This is just something small and simple I whipped up since I had the ingredients.

Hello Sister, Hello Auntie

I am behind on posting, but I still want to make the effort of at least trying to post what has been going on this year with me and my family.

This summer my sister paid an extremely short visit, and to be honest it was not even enough time for us to do anything. I wish she could have been here longer for us to spend time together with Ryu. It was a very nice and short visit, but I hope we get to spend some quality time with my sister some time soon. It would also be nice if she can bring my brother-in-law with her that way Ryu can get to know them more. It was also an even greater time because my Aunt and Uncle flew in from Australia for two weeks to spend time with the family. This would be the second time in a decade that I reacquainted with my aunt. It was a great experience and it was nice getting to know her as an adult. I also enjoyed how fond her and her husband were of Ryu. It makes me feel good when people are not annoyed with my child. I know some children can be a bit out of hand and I'm glad that Ryu is not one of those kids.

These pictures were taken before my Aunt and Uncle went to San Francisco to visit his relatives. After having breakfast we headed out to The Grove. We actually had breakfast on Father's Day and it was great. It was a really nice and simple family outing. When my sister was over we spent time at home mainly because we insisted on making dinner and just spending some quality time together. We were able to go shopping with my aunt for a bit and got to catch up with each other there so it was nice. Unfortunately, we didn't take that many pictures and to be honest I wish I did. My sister was here on the days that I worked so I didn't really get to spend that much time with her. I couldn't get days of and it was a bummer, wish I did.

Pasadena's Music Festival

[caption id="attachment_681" align="aligncenter" width="740"]Dustbowl Revival Dustbowl Revival[/caption]

I know that I am absolutely late when it comes to posting this, but I wanted to take the time to continue posting everything that I wanted to the past month. Better late than never, right?

Last month Sean and I went to Make Music Pasadena. It was a full day access to a bunch of great bands and really was worth going to. It was extremely hot, but really it was the first time I've ever truly enjoyed myself watching people play live. It was a great experience and I definitely want to go to the next one and I think they have it yearly. I got to see my favorite band play and I was very excited and stoked to see them. I love seeing Dustbowl Revival play or just listening to their music because they are very much my style when it comes to eargasms.

I absolutely love their music and I can't wait to hear more of their new stuff. We spent most of our day jumping from bar to bar and then listening to bands. The great part is that there were bands playing in small cafe's, restaurants, and shops as well.It made it such a great experience. I have never seen that many people come gather for anything, except Disneyland, ha!

The heat was excruciating and it was the first time this year that I felt that summer was finally here. It was overall a great first time experience for me. I hope to attend more festivals in the future. I must say the only thing I wasn't too thrilled about was the heat. I was dying by the time it was ten a.m my hair skin could not handle it. I also don't think that I will be wearing black out any time soon when I know that I'll be outdoors just to keep it safe.
